Vineyard House

Vineyard House was founded in 1997 by a group of dedicated and caring volunteers who saw the need in the community for recovery support of people after they detoxify, in their home community on the Island of Martha's Vineyard. It continues today, mostly through the work of volunteers in both the areas of running the residential program and in raising funds to support the program.

Mission Statement

The objective of this corporation is to provide a temporary home or homes for alcohol and/or drug dependent persons primarily from the Martha's Vineyard community who need a sober, stable and mutually supportive transitional environment in which to find health and independence.

History

The history of Vineyard House begins in 1997 with the generous gift of an antique home from a concerned member of the community who saw the need for a sober living environment for islanders in early recovery from substance abuse. This was the first men's house. A second house was purchased by the organization thanks to generous donations from the island community and families whose loved ones had benefited directly from Vineyard House. Once a sober living environment was available to the island community, the ensuing response required the addition of a house specifically for women. Throughout our history, the importance of Vineyard House to the island’s health and welfare has been demonstrated by the strong support we have received from all segments of the community.
