A safe, sober place to live for Islanders in early recovery from substance abuse

Water Tasting 2005

A spectacular and exclusive waterfront location, gourmet food by some of the Island's premier chefs, fine waters, music by a top island band, and a silent auction with highly desirable items - we're talking again about the most recent Water Tasting-by-the-Sea on Friday, July 15. This popular annual fundraising event was for Vineyard House, the local organization that provides safe, sober housing for Islanders in early recovery from substance abuse.

The event - now in its eighth year - was hosted by Barbara Boch at her 15-acre property on Edgartown harbor. The Water Tasting was held at the Boch property last year too, and this is the first time the event has returned to the previous location.

"It was such a huge success last year and Mrs. Boch was such a terrific host that when she offered her estate to us again, we couldn't say no," says event chair Mark Jenkins.
A major change from previous years is the Silent and Live Auction, which was organized by a team led by Cheryl Stark of CB Stark Jewelers, and which features items worth thousands of dollars. Donors include Allen Whiting, Lorraine Parrish, Gannon & Benjamin, CB Stark Jewelers, The Lamplighter, Island Water Sports, Vintage Jewelry, Claudia, Bramhall & Dunn, Peter Simon, Allen Sheep Farm, Mansion House, Alley Cat. Daisy Kimberly, Sioux Eagle, and more.

Catering was handled by Dean Farina. Featured cuisine was donated by some of the Island's best known chefs, including Jaime Hamlin and Ben deForest. Additional items are being provided by Ciao Bella, Pomodoro's, and Mocha Mott's. The raw bar is being donated by Edgartown Seafood.

Cronig's Markets stepped up as a major sponsor. Co-sponsor Nestlé Waters North America Inc. donated all the water, which will include Perrier, San Pelligrino Acqua Panna, Poland Spring, and Calistoga, as well as other services.

Kevin McCluskey and Eric Johnson provided live musical entertainment.

"It's important to convey the message that you don't need to drink alcohol to have a good time," says Vineyard House president Carol MacManus. "And a good time is always had at this alcohol-

“What the Vineyard
House has been for me is the best thing that ever happened in my life. What I owe I really can never repay to the House and my house manager.”
